RETROSPECTIVA MONIKA TREUT

O MiX Brasil tem a honra de apresentar uma pequena retrospectiva com alguns dos trabalhos mais significativos de uma das mais importantes cineastas queer.
Nascida na Alemanha, Monika Treut formou-se em Literatura e Ciências Políticas com sua tese de Ph.D. "A mulher Cruel: Imagens femininas na obra do Marquês de Sade e Leopold von Sacher-Masoch". De 1978 a 1982, Treut foi responsável pela programação de centros de mídia em Berlin e Hamburgo, e também escreveu, produziu e dirigiu vários curtas. Depois disso, ela começou a escrever, produzir e dirigir filmes de longa-metragem independentes e documentários, e viajou intensivamente para promover seus filmes. Em 1986, Treut trabalhou na produção teatral "Tropical Tree", de Mishima. A partir de 1990 Treut palestrou como convidada em várias conferências e universidades no Canadá e Nos Estados Unidos. Em 1992 ela fundou a Hyena Films Hamburgo. Os filmes de Treut foram exibidos extensivamente em festivais no mundo inteiro. Apesar de morar em Hamburgo, na Alemanha, ela está sempre viajando.

Mix Brasil is proud to present a small retrospective with some of the most important films of renowned queer director, Monika Treut. Born in Germany, Monika Treut completed her studies of literature and political science with the Ph.D. thesis "The Cruel Woman: Female Images in the Writing of Marquis de Sade and Leopold von Sacher-Masoch." From 1978-1982 Treut was in charge of programming for media centers and art houses in Berlin and Hamburg and also produced, wrote, and directed numerous short videos. After that she began to produce, write, and direct independent feature films and documentaries and traveled extensively with the films. In 1986 Treut worked on the theatre production of Mishima's Tropical Tree. Since 1990 she has been a guest lecturer at numerous conferences and universities in Canada and the United States. In 1992 she founded Hyena Films Hamburg. Treut's films have been shown extensively at festivals throughout the entire world. Based in Hamburg, Germany, she is frequently on the road.

Dorothee, a would-be writer and journalist, leaves Germany for the Oz of San Francisco, searching for her long-lost mother and a cure for the malady of love. Installed in the Tenderloin, she peeps in on neighbors' bizarre sex rituals as well as does sightseeing of the more traditional kind. When Dorothy surfaces like a dazzled tourist on the wilder shores of the city's lesbian community, she has discovered her true sexuality. . . . and left some illusions behind. Dorothee, uma jornalista metida à escritora, deixa a Alemanha pela magia de São Francisco, em busca de sua mãe à muito perdida e uma cura para a doença do amor. Instalada num bairro barra-pesada, ela xereta os bizarros rituais sexuais dos vizinhos e também acha tempo para as atrações turísticas mais tradicionais. Até que ela descobre sua verdadeira sexualidade... e deixa algumas ilusões para trás.

Explores phenomena of gender fluidity at the end of the millennium in the Bay Area, California. It is a film about cyborgs, people who alter their bodies and minds with new technologies and chemistry, with an emphasis on biological women who use the male sexual hormone testosterone. We get to know San Francisco's leading gender mixers.. We take excursions into the life of the spotted hyena, a very special animal society. The female hyena has an enlarged clitoris that looks like a penis. Her bloodstream carries a large amount of testosterone especially when she's pregnant.
Este filme explora a flexibilidade dos gêneros neste fim de milênio na área de São Francisco, Califórnia, e para isso conta com cyborgs, pessoas que alteraram seus corpos e mentes usando a tecnologia e química, com ênfase em mulheres que tomam testosterona, o hormônio masculino. Conhecemos as misturas de gêneros líders em São Francisco, e conhecemos a vida da hiena, que forma uma sociedade animal muito especial. A hiena fêmea tem um grande clitoris que parece um pênis.
